Riff Cohen

Singer. Song Writer. Director. Musical Producer. Art Director.

An innovative and creative artist. Who sings in French, English and Hebrew, lives and preforms in Tel Aviv, as well as in Paris, Istanbul and around Europe.  Riff juggles and experiments with a wide variety of musical genres – from French Pop to avant-garde, North-African traditional music to classic rock, while drawing inspiration from personal influences, one in particular is her grandmother, Fortuna, who was born and raised on Djerba Island off the coasts of Tunisia.

Starting at a very young age music and dance have always played a vital part in her life; she dabbled in music composition at the tender age of 8, played the piano, and while studying at an arts school in Tel Aviv, participated in a few television shows, and sang in a choir.

In 2003 Riff participated and recorded a song as part of a video art performance named “worlds” by the French artist Josef Dadon. The piece was introduced in different museums around France. In 2004 they performed together in Paris.

During the years 2008 – 2010 Riff stayed in Paris after she had been accepted to the Cite Des Arts International, a venue which hosts 500 artists from around the world. As part of her studies she performed with the musician Vincent Segal and collaborated with different artists among which the musician ‘Tricky’.

In 2011 Riff released her first single ‘A Paris’. In a bold decision she decided to direct by herself the video clip to the song. Only later to receive more than a million views in YouTube. Her second single ‘J’aime’ proved to be another favorite hit and Riff was nominated and then received ‘rising star’ as well as ‘song of the year’ awards by Israel’s most popular radio station.

In 2012 her debut album ‘A Paris’ was released, with the upbeat, catchy songs ‘Rotza Prahim’ and ‘Dans mon Quartier’. The lyrics to the songs in the album were written by Riff’s mother, Patricia Cohen, and composed by Riff. ‘Universal’ company which decided to distribute the album in Europe, helped create a welcomed hype, capturing the hearts of fans from different parts of the world. Cohen embarked on tours all over the continent and had a surging and overwhelming success in Turkey, with consecutive sold-out shows in major venues. Cohen was then chosen to open the ‘Red Hot Chili Peppers’ performance in Hayarkon Park.

To date, Riff’s songs and Patricia’s lyrics are taught during French lessons in the French Consulate.

‘A La Menthe’ the second album, was released in 2015. The song ‘Helas’ has hit waves as did its whimsical playful clip.

Recently the Turkish singer Simge performed a cover version to Riff’s song ‘Dand Mon Quartier’, which crossed 180 million views on YouTube.

Riff incorporates in her music and performance a juxtaposition of oriental sounds and fragrances with an edgy and modern rock-n-roll take, bringing forth a true vibrant and colorful celebration.

She continues to perform in Israel and tour around the world, while evolving and growing as an artist.
