DAWA is the new project by bassist, composer, and guembri player Shai Hazan, blending contemporary jazz with musical traditions from North and West Africa, ambient, minimalism, and free improvisation.

Built around hypnotic grooves, acoustic loops, and rich polyrhythms, DAWA creates immersive performances where composition and improvisation merge into a unique, ever-evolving musical journey.

Named after the Arabic word for “healing,” DAWA reflects the band’s vision of music as a space for deep listening, connection, and transformation. Drawing inspiration from Moroccan Gnawa, spiritual jazz, Afrobeat, and experimental music, the ensemble has developed a distinctive and boundary-crossing sound.
