Public Radio International (PRI) calls Victoria Hanna the “freshest, edgiest, weirdest artist on the Israeli airwaves today.”

The daughter of an Egyptian father, who was an Orthodox rabbi steeped in the world of Hebrew, and a Persian mother, Hanna has created her own sound by blending Middle Eastern music and rhythms with rap, hip-hop, and the inspiration of Hebrew and religious texts.

Jazz @ The Submarine: Yotam Ben-Or Quartet

Internationally acclaimed harmonica player and composer, Yotam Ben-Or, is “playing at a level that, in my opinion, matches Stevie Wonder himself״ (Bass Musician Magazine).

The Israeli-Beligan award-winner, based in NYC formed his quartet in 2015 joined by some of the leading emerging artists of the NYC jazz scene. The quartet has performed at prestigious venues and festivals such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, Bric JazzFest, Carnegie Hall and toured throughout the Americas, Europe, and Israel. Ben-Or had the privilege to work with and be mentored by musicians such as Avishai Cohen (bass), Gregoire Maret, Jason Moran, Ben Street and more. In June 2018, the quartet released their debut album ‘Sitting on a Cloud’ featuring Ben-Or’s original compositions laced with richly inspired and deeply honest sounds that will transport you to the rugged, yet sultry landscapes of your mind’s eye.

“Playing at a level that, in my opinion, matches Stevie Wonder himself, Yotam holds his own with the piano, bass and drums” Bass Musician Magazine

“This harmonica man’s debut set shows the spirit of Toots Thielemans is alive and well..[he] knows how to lead and puts his crew through the right moves..” Chris Spector, Midwest Record

“Throughout the album, his smooth use of flourishes and trills on harmonica are as exciting as his perfectly reached highs, and lows that never break apart. Embracing the role of melody maker, Ben-Or sparkles with a talented ensemble.” Debbie Burke, Jazz Author

“Broken Hallelujah” | A journey through Leonard Cohen’s poetry, song, and prayers

Part of Leonard Cohen’s songs range between absolute prayers to broken up prayers and meta-physical Jewish hymns.

A Huge poet, Cohen, is one the leading voices in popular music. He wrote and sang about the modern man and his interaction with god, love, and death.

Cohen, masterfully wove humor into the “heavy” topics he sang about , and managed to see thing in an ironic way.

The pieces chosen for this evening are from all stages of Cohen’s life, from his first album through his last.

The acoustic arrangements are rich and complex yet allow one’s own interpretation.

Jazz @ The Submarine: The Blues Of Freeborn Women

powerful, bold, beautiful, unabashedly horny and forthcoming about all aspects of life, both good and sad.

Noya Sol fearlessly steps into the shoes of the queen of the Blues, Bessie Smith. She ought to be admired for the sheer audacity of doing s, but then – she also does it in the best way possible: her own way, imbuing the songs with her own personal interpretation, giving a very up-to-date touch to the sounds that, 100 years ago, changed the world, with all due respect and with a liberating sense of here and now.

Jazz @ The Submarine: Yaël Angel

Yaël is one of the most interesting jazz singers in France. She will sing numbers from her recently released album Bop Writer, including her versions of legendary Bebop instrumentals like Miles Davis’ So What.

Yaël has added lyrics to the melodies, making them into real songs.

Yaël will be performing with Jérôme Vinson, French pianist and winner of the Nice Jazz Festival Awards, and Ram Erez on doublebass, just back from playing with top jazz musicians in New York.  The trio will also interpret a selection of French standards, with jazz arrangements written specially for this Israeli tour.”

Yaël Angel : vocals
Jérôme Vinson : piano
Ram Erez : doublebas

Alex Dutilh – France Musique ” This is jazz as it should be, sung in plain sight with a soulful mastery

Culture Jazz – Florence Ducommun “ Yaël Angel’s new album already places her among the great jazz vocalists”
