HipHop @ The Submarine: KILLIN H8 (Hila The Killa & Sir KN8) & Pele-Ozen

Pele-Ozen – Original Hip Hop Crew based in Tel-Aviv & Jerusalem, spreading vibes of revolution, peace and love with unique style and groove.

HILA THE KILLA and SIR KN8 announce the first release under their new found collective moniker KILLIN H8; “Body Hair” promotes body positivity and not being afraid of being yourself. The video for the track will be premiering officially at the Berlin Music Video Awards in May 2017.

SIR KN8 and HILA THE KILLA are a hip-hop duo based in NYC. The core of their music is humorous and philosophical lyricism, expressing deep thoughts with light hearts on optimistic, early-90’s-inspired beats.

They are both independent artists in their own right (Sir Kn8 as a rapper/producer, Hila the Killa as a rapper/comic/performance artist), and have lately been collaborating on stages and recording projects. Sir Kn8 builds beats live with a sampler wearing a colorful onesie, while Hila the Killa dances and does handstands and other acrobatics, amidst which they pass the mic and go song for song rapping.

It sounds like if a combination of Saul Williams and Gift of Gab made twin babies with a combination of Queen Latifah and Sarah Silverman, and those babies grew up listening to De La Soul (which such babies probably would anyway).

The duo performs regularly in Brooklyn and Manhattan, where they’ve shared stages with Hemlock Ernst (Samuel Herring of Future Islands), Sasheer Zamata (SNL), Roy Wood, Jr. (The Daily Show), Carolyn Castiglia and Jamal/ Ivy League (producer for Majesticons and Mike Ladd).

Jazz @ The Yellow Submarine: Joanna

London born, LA / NYC based vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Joanna Wallfisch has emerged as a unique voice in the singer-songwriter world.

With a classical and jazz background her music combines post-folk and art-song with a poetic lyricism which The New York Times described as “sensitive and deep”. She is a master in the art of live vocal looping and creates beguiling vocal soundscapes to accompany her songs. The Telegraph called her virtuosic performance as “sublime and unique”.

Since 2011 Joanna has released three critically acclaimed albums, her fourth, “Blood and Bone” to be released later in 2017. “Gardens In My Mind”, (Sunnyside, 2016), features pianist Dan Tepfer and the award-winning Sacconi Quartet, showcasing Joanna’s “crystalline delivery” (Downbeat) and lush string quartet writing. Downbeat gave this album four stars, calling it “an exquisite singer-songwriter album”, while PopMatters called it “a truly beautiful listen from start to finish”

Marsh Dondurma

Marsh Dondurma has in the years of its existence created a personal and identifiable sound.

The band create an Israel groove, weaving Arab Maqam, New Orleans trumpets, Yemenite rhythm with Balkan riffs and klezmer howls with butt shaking funk. This specific blend has taken them around the world (The Montreal Jazz Festival, The Gocha Festival in Serbia, China, Taiwan, Mexico, Poland and more) as well as to countless stages and events in Israel (The Israel festival, The Eilat Jazz Festival, The Piano Festival, The Klezmer Festival in Zfat, The Acco Festival, IndiNegev, Menashe forests and more). The unmediated contact with the public continues to nourish their music, and it is not rare to find the band starting a street party.

Yagel Harush and “Shir Yedidut” Ensemble

Breaking Dawn- from the Moroccan Jewry’s Mystical night songs-Bakashot. The Bakashot of the Jews of Morocco is one of the riches Piyut and composition traditions in the Israel Tradition.

In the winter nights a group of poets, singers and songwriters came together and sang the most beautiful love songs written in Hebrew till the break of dawn.

Yagel Harush and the “Shir Yedidut” ensemble give new meaning to ancient Piyutim. Alongside embedding folk and western harmony melodies they strive to conserve the gentle unique sound of the mystic middle eastern music. The vision is reviving one of the richest poetic and music masses in the Hebrew culture. The performance strives to include the audience as an inseparable part of the ensemble and the venue- to a house of prayer.

The performance reserves the original structure of the Bakashot- it grows stronger and louder as the night recedes before dawn, darkness to light, exile to the light of Zion.  As does the album. A number of musicians took part in the making of the album. Amongst others David D’or, Erez Lev Ari And Yishai Rivo.

Buttering Trio

Buttering Trio are three gentle souls from Tel Aviv trying to bring the funk to the desert. Using heavy beats, fat bass lines and sweet yet poignant lyrics, they try to bring some peace in a troubled region.

What started out as studio jams in a smoky basement in Berlin evolved into a world-wide-touring three headed music-making love monster.

Rejoicer, Beno and KerenDun are all musicians and producers, a fact that is felt in their uncompromising sound. Their live show is a non-stop experience, one psychedelic groovy journey through the mixture of their subconscious minds. The trio’s combination of loop-based beats with live instruments (saxophone, vocals, synths and bass) creates a natural and refreshing flow between atmospheric sounds, jazz explorations, and broken rhythms.
